Clinical Supervision
Hi, I’m Ellie Finch. If you're looking for individual or group online clinical supervision for yourself or your team, then we may be a good fit.

Finding a supervisor is important. However, finding the right supervisor - someone you feel comfortable with, who helps you grow and develop your practice in service of your clients - is even more important.

Specialisms
My specialisms include working with neurodivergent clients, as well as supporting siblings and parents of children with complex medical conditions, disabilities, and special educational needs. I also specialise in using video games (such as Minecraft and Roblox) and other digital tools (including digital sandtrays) for therapeutic purposes. Additionally, I provide training and consultancy on how to use these tools effectively in therapy.

Experience
I began my counselling career at ChildLine in 2009. I qualified as a social worker at Master’s level from the Tavistock Clinic in 2012, with a focus on child and adolescent mental health, working with children, young people, parents, and families. In 2015, I gained a post-graduate qualification as a counsellor and psychotherapist. Since then, I have worked as a counsellor in various settings, including schools, a women’s centre, a young people’s counselling service, and Relate. I also run a private practice where I work with children, young people, parents, and families.

Qualifications
I hold an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision, including online and telephone work, from Counselling Tutor. Additionally, I have a Certificate in Family Counselling from Relate and a Certificate in Relational Couples Therapy from the Centre for Relational Couples Therapy. I also hold an Advanced Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling, accredited by ACTO (Association of Counselling and Therapy Online), which ensures I meet the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy's core competencies for working online and over the phone with clients.

Therapeutic Approach
As an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, I draw on several therapeutic approaches (primarily person-centred, psychodynamic, and systemic) depending on the individual needs of my clients.

How I work as a supervisor
I use the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision to structure supervision sessions.
The Seven-Eyed Model, developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet, is widely used in therapy and counselling supervision. It provides a framework to explore and understand the dynamics of the therapeutic process, the relationship between therapist and client, and the supervisor’s contributions to the supervisory relationship. This model is described in their book Supervision in the Helping Professions. Below is a summary of the seven 'eyes' or modes of focus within this model:

-
Client Presentation: Focusing on how the client presents and what they bring to the session.
-
Strategies and Interventions: Exploring the strategies and interventions used by the supervisee.
-
Client-Supervisee Relationship: Examining the relationship between the client and supervisee, including any transference from the client towards the supervisee.
-
Supervisee’s Countertransference: Focusing on the supervisee, particularly their own emotional responses or countertransference.
-
Supervisory Relationship and Parallel Processes: Exploring the dynamics of the supervisory relationship, including any parallel processes that may be occurring.
-
Supervisor’s Self-Reflection: Encouraging the supervisor to reflect on their own processes and responses.
-
Wider Contexts of the Work: Considering the broader contexts of the client’s and supervisee’s environments.
This model promotes a holistic and reflective approach to supervision, encouraging deeper understanding and insight into the interconnected elements of therapy and supervision.

TESTIMONIALS
"Ellie builds a trusting supervisory relationship very quickly, within which I felt able to speak freely, without judgment and take sensitive issues to supervision that either were impacting or could potentially impact my client work. Within supervision, we explored my processes, what I thought was going on for the client and the therapeutic relationship. Ellie encouraged me to reflect on all this and identify what went well and what, if anything, I might approach differently in a similar situation. It always felt very safe, well held and non-judgmental - all key aspects of a supervisory relationship. It was particularly useful for supervision of my use of Minecraft therapeutically with clients, as Ellie is a mine (no pun intended 😊) of information in this area. It was so good to be able to run all of this by her, as it’s new as an intervention, and I’m a relative novice in its use."
Cliona Snow - Supervisee
"Ellie is very open to exploring new techniques with me and lends her valuable family counselling lens to help develop my practice in providing family sessions."
Anon - Supervisee
"Ellie has provided helpful advice to support further CPD for myself. Having a positive attitude and being professional in all sessions. Being an expert in using digital systems, Ellie has allowed me to gain confidence using a different way of working."
